Beat the Heat

I am so excited that summer is finally here…but as Elaine would say to Jerry in Seinfeld…”the HEAT Jerry! THE HEAT!” That’s pretty much how I feel right now. The humidity in Boston during the summer can be brutal so I thought it would be suitable to give a few suggestions on what one could do to beat the heat this summer.  So here goes it…

Keep the windows CLOSED between 10am and 5pm. It seems counter intuitive, but it keeps the heat from coming in from outside. And if you have blinds or curtains, close those as well. It’s amazing what it does. I mean it makes you look like your a vampire, but hey, you must do what you have to do.

Close the doors of rooms that aren’t being used as often as other rooms.
After 5pm rolls around take some fans and point them outwards. It takes all that hot air in your place, and shoves it outside, swapping it with cooler air that is situating itself outside.

Keep as many lights and electronics off as possible because they emit heat

Apply cold water to your pulse points (this cools you off quick)

Go see a movie to beat the heat

If you happen to have a deck, patio, or a small grassy area, buy a kiddie pool and fill it up. Have some peeps over to sit around and have some drinks.

Have a water gun war or water balloon fight.
Near a grassy area?  Pull out the slip and slide

Boston is on the Ocean so find a local beach.  Here are a couple in Boston:
Revere Beach (you can take the blue line)
Carson Beach (a short walk from JFK-UMass on the Red line)

Don’t like the beach? Find a local pool to cool off. Here are a few in Boston:

Number one tip for beating the heat...Drink plenty of water so you don't become dehydrated.

Have fun, stay cool, and try to beat the heat this summer
